Chapter 9 : The Hospital

I woke up groggily to the beeps and rhythms of machines and the soft neons of the electric screens. I could hardly remember what happened last night, all I could recall was a bright light and then losing consciousness. I sat up on the bed and noticed a small child on a bed opposite me. He sat bolt upright hugging a toy robot tightly in his arms, on it was carved the word Allan.

Noticing my disability to walk, I urged him to come over to my bed. He reacted with so much fear and discomfort, it was pitiful just looking at him. His bony hand raised up and pointed to the table beside me, I could tell that he was unable to unleash much strength as his fingers shook uncontrollably. I reached out for the card on top of a fruit basket that was sitted on the table.

Dear Mr Dave,
I apologise gravely for knocking you over. I was just cruising by and did not notice you stepping onto the road. I hope you are feeling much better, I have contacted your family and friends. I believe they will drop by to visit you soon. The bill is on my tab so don't worry about it. I'm so sorry for causing you so much trouble. Please forgive me.
Sincerely,
Anonymous

I was intrigued on why no name or contact was written on the card. Perhaps he or she was feeling really guily about the accident. I wasn't blaming anyone, I was just too drunk to be aware of the surroundings. Well, at least I wasn't badly injured, I'm just going to take this in my stride and move on with my life.

I thanked the boy whom I presume is by the name of Allan with a wide smile. He reacted with tenderness, and continued staring at me as I laid back down on the bed.

Lady luck hasn't been by my side, perhaps she has forgotten all about my existence, thus, I'm not going to depend on her, I will overcome all obstacles and grow stronger. Perhaps I should grab more rest, my body was sore and aching all over. Tomorrow will be a better day...
